DCM Report (Darrell W.):

·        First, I’d like to apologize for the inaccurate information that was printed in one of the
District 3’s previous minutes, concerning the Hotline.  I was informed by a member of the program
that this information was incorrect.  As it was stated in the previous minutes, the new phone
answering service that we had at one time was dropping calls, this information was incorrect.
Also, was stated that this was one of the reasons for going back to the old phone answering service.
For more descriptive details concerning the Hotline, please contact, Stuart L. or Demetra.
I apologize for any inconvenience.

·        September 7th, 8th, & 9th, District 3 is responsible for workshops at the West Central Regional Forun (WCRF).  We will need at least 6 volunteers for this event.

·        Met with Jane M., DCM of District 29 about having a picnic in the near future (July), to hear the Delegates report.  I talked with Jane M. (DCM) and we agreed that District 3 will be responsible for cooking the meat at this event.  For more details on this event, contact Jane M. (DCM).

·        I was invited to attend a meeting at Touchtones to give the newly elected GSR some support.  I was also invited to speak at several meetings.

·        DCM/LCMs, we will continue to visit groups in the District to try and get more group members involved on the District level.

·        Local Community Members (LCMs):  When a large district divides itself into smaller districts (often called sub-districts or local districts), each electing a LCM.  LCMs may or may not be voting members of the Area committee or may or may not hold regular meetings with GSRs they serve.

                                                                                    - Darrell W., DCM of District 3

OLD BUSINESS:

West Central Regional Forum (WCRF) is in September. Just a reminder:  District 3 is hosting
(workshops) & we’ll need at least 6 volunteers to help out at this event.

DCM Travel Expenses:  GSRs at this meeting stated their groups do support the motion by
Darrell W. (DCM), to increase the DCM’s travel expense amount.  It was agreed the increase
will be $150.00 for each trip to Grand Island and $200.00 for each trip to North Platte. Further
discussion was brought up by Mark S. regarding record keeping of these funds.  It was agreed that
these funds would be given to the DCM upfront, and then he would bring all receipts and any
unused funds back.  Mark S. stated 2 stipulations on this motion: 1) If funds available and 2) DCMs
travel expenses to be reviewed at the end of the year.  Motion w/stipulations was put to a vote,
and unanimously approved.

NEW BUSINESS:

Picnic for Delegates Report – Jane M. (DCM District 29) and Darrell W. (DCM District 3) are
working out details.  Darrell W. stated no actual set date in July as of yet, and we will need
volunteers to help cook the meat at this function.  For more information check the DCM’s report.

Darrell W. (DCM) is visiting more groups in District 3 to stimulate participation and involvement of
groups to attend upcoming events and District meetings.

GSRs going out to Area 41 events coming up.  We need to spread the word: All are welcome to
attend these events.  You can be involved, represent your group, even if you are not a GSR. Darrell
W. is planning to put new flyers out to morning groups & noon groups to promote these events and
get more participation from these groups.

Spread the Word.   Victor G agreed to visit the noon groups to continue to motivate support at the
District level.  Jackie V (GSR) attends the noon meetings and will also rally support for District 3.

New York “Biz” – Charlie, Delegate of Area 41, went to New York.  We are anxious to hear about
his “New York experience” by our next District 3 business meeting, so we can share this with
everyone!

An annual Labor Day Picnic was discussed.  Mark S. is in charge of the location, and is checking
out locations for the event.  Possibly, the location will be the same as last year, at Pioneers Park.
The location needs to be close to our District 3 area, with consideration for travelers from Seward
and other surrounding areas.  Darrell W. mentioned the idea of having music at the picnic.  He will
be checking in to this.

News from Seward:  1)   Michael B. is excited to announce, “A new group of Allateen is kickin’ off!”
in Seward.  Now “the whole family” is in Seward.  And, Alanon is on Wednesday nights, as well as,
on Friday nights.  2)  Jim S. is making a newsletter, titled:  “Around the Area.”  The newsletter will
include information of what’s going on in Seward, such as activities & fun event in the Seward area.  When the newsletter is released, it will be distributed throughout the District 3 groups and beyond.
We are looking forward to seeing the 1st edition.  Thanks, Jim!

News from Crete:  Michael B. stated that District 3 came down to Crete to “fire-up” Spanish-speaking groups.  Father Tvurity of a local Catholic Church there has graciously opened the doors for this
group to have a place to meet.  This is a great benefit in Crete for the Spanish-speaking community.  There was a definite need for this group in Crete to accommodate Drug Court and the local county
jail (which houses up to 150 inmates with up to 70% drug/alcohol related offenses, many inmates are Spanish-speaking only).

NEXT DISTRICT 3 MINUTES MEETING:  JUNE 10th   The District 3 meeting in June will be held
on the 2nd Sunday (June 10th) at 1:30pm.  Date change due to the Area 41 Reunion on June
1st-3rd  in Grand Island.  Hope to see you all there at the Area 41 Reunion!!

PRAYER REQUEST…  We ask for a moment of prayer for Ben (LCM), who recently had surgery
for lung cancer.  He was in the hospital for a week, and now is recovering at his home (still attending meetings,…God Bless Him!).  Pray to God for Ben’s speedy recovery!
